Job Description: Labourers for Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day

Position Title: Household Hazardous Waste Collection Laborer Event Date: Saturday, May 3, 2025 Location: 265 Industrial Boulevard, North Glengarry

Job Summary

The Township of North Glengarry is seeking labourers to assist in the collection and handling of household hazardous waste during the Household Hazardous Waste Day. Labourers will work alongside township employees and a specialist waste disposal company to ensure the safe collection, identification, and preparation of hazardous materials for disposal.

Duties and Responsibilities

Collection and Handling:

• Receive household hazardous waste materials from residents.
• Safely handle and identify hazardous substances such as paint, oils, batteries, chemicals, and other household hazardous items.
• Package materials appropriately for transport and disposal following safety protocols.
• Safety Compliance:
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by the township (e.g., gloves, masks, safety goggles).
• Follow all established safety procedures to minimize exposure risks.
• Coordination with Disposal Specialists:
• Assist the specialist waste disposal company in loading materials onto transport vehicles.
• Ensure proper documentation and labeling of hazardous materials as required.

Site Maintenance:

• Keep the collection site organized and clean during the event.
• Assist in post-event cleanup of the area.

Skills and Qualifications

• Ability to work in a team environment and follow instructions from supervisors.
• Physical fitness to lift and move materials (up to 35 pounds).
• Attention to detail for identifying and handling hazardous substances safely.
• Basic knowledge of workplace safety practices (training will be provided).

Requirements

• Must be punctual and reliable on May 3, 2025.
• No prior experience required; on-site training will be provided regarding hazardous waste handling procedures.
• Must wear PPE throughout the event.

Work Hours

Labourers must be available from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on May 3, 2025.

Compensation

Hourly rate is minimum wage $17.20/hr.
