Registered Dietitian for The Maxville Manor

Maxville Manor is a 122-bed long-term care home located in Maxville, Ontario which is only 30 minutes east of Ottawa or 30 minutes north of Cornwall.

The Registered Dietician is responsible for providing and documenting nutrition/hydration care in compliance with regulatory standards and Maxville Manor policies and procedures.

Candidate must meet one of the following qualifications:

  • University Degree in the area of Food and Nutrition with approved dietetic internship program and passed the Regulatory Examination.
  • Member in good standing with the College of Dieticians in Ontario and Member of the Dieticians of Canada
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of Experience working in gerontology, rehabilitation, or long-term care
  • Knowledgeable of the dietary regulations as outlined in the Long-Term Care Act
  • Strong written and oral communication, critical thinking, care coordination, time management and customer focus skills
  • Effective written and oral communication
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Med e-care, RAI MDS, and any other medical software.

Summary of Job Duties:

  • To provide support and direction through the provision of clinical and administrative expertise including but not limited to; supplemental usage, weight monitoring and evaluation, bowel management, palliative care, adaptive feeding aides/devices, skin care management, management
  • To assess nutrition status for all residents on admission, quarterly and whenever there is a significant change in status.
  • Follow up on email or written referrals from clinical team members
  • To establish standards of care and the nutritional risk screening systems, direct intervention and counseling for those identified at high risk
  • Collaboration within the interprofessional team to optimize resident outcomes and quality of life.
  • To develop a nutrition plan of care for each newly admitted resident
  • To evaluate and modify, as needed, the nutrition plan of care for residents on an ongoing basis
  • To document resident nutritional care in the Med e-care program
  • To review and approve the home’s seasonal menus, including those for therapeutic and texture modified diets and snack menu
  • Provide written verification to Administrator that menu meets the Dietary Reference for residents, including calories, protein, fiber, and fluids, as well as other nutrients
  • To provide nutrition/dietary counseling/education for residents, their caregivers, family members, or substitute decision makers.
  • Identify residents for whom follow-up can be appropriately done, and if needed, have the Food Service Manager involved in the communication.
  • Participate in and make recommendations at interdisciplinary care conferences or assist the Dietary Services Manager with their participation in the conference.
  • Plan and monitor therapeutic diets, dietary restrictions, and provision of nutritional supplements according to the assessed needs of residents.
  • Develop menus that meet the specifications for those residents who cannot meet their nutrition requirements through the planned menu cycle.
  • Participate in care teams, such as skin/wound care, bowel management, dysphagia, restorative feeding, and weight management as needed.
  • Participate on the Home’s Quality Improvement Team.
  • Ensure that meals, nourishments, and beverages are provided to support residents’ optimal nutrition status to ensure that needs are met.
  • Other duties may include: swallowing assessments, monitoring resident dining room(s), completion of audits related to Nutritional Care, Dietary Services, and staff education
  • To complete all other tasks as assigned and work collaboratively with the Director of Food Services.
  • Work in collaboration with DHFS and interdisciplinary team during all phases of redevelopment and implementation of new Meal system.

The candidate should be able to work independently and collaboratively, be physically fit, responsible, punctual, and reliable and be able to deliver excellence in customer service for our residents.
